Construction of Saskatoon’s $62-million Gordie Howe Sports Complex is well underway with a planned 2019 opening. Named for Saskatoon’s most famous son, hockey legend Gordie Howe, the master plan features a new 90,000 sq.-ft. indoor training facility (with indoor turf fields), a 400-metre outdoor track and field facility that can be converted to a long track speed skating oval in the winter, 5,000 seats installed at Saskatoon Minor Football Field, upgraded baseball and softball diamonds, facilities for Nordic skiing and an additional outdoor turf field.
Moncton’s new Avenir Centre opened its doors on September 8, 2018. Managed by SMG Canada, the $113-million, multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility is located in the heart of the city, and boasts a single NHL-size ice pad, 4,000 sq.-ft. of flexible meeting and event space, and an outdoor public plaza featuring a bandstand, rink, park and gazebo.
