Canada Games Centre
Built to host synchronized swimming, badminton and artistic gymnastics competitions during the 2011 Canada Winter Games, this 175,000-sq.-ft. facility features three pools, a field house with 60-foot ceilings, three FIBA-sized basketball courts and five FIVB-sized volleyball courts. Among the fastest-growing sports in this facility, which sees about one million visits from paid community members a year, is pickleball, according to general manager, Gary Furlong.
Scotiabank Centre
Located right in the heart of the city, and with seating for more than 10,000, the Scotiabank Centre is Atlantic Canada’s largest multipurpose facility. Home to the Halifax Mooseheads hockey team and the Halifax Hurricanes basketball team, the Centre recently completed a multimillion-dollar upgrade program that includes a new roof, lighting, seats and updated concessions area.
Dartmouth 4-Pad Arena
Opened in September 2017, the Dartmouth 4-Pad Arena hosts minor hockey, varsity sport and senior leagues on its Olympic-sized and three NHL-sized ice pads. The facility is managed by Nustadia Recreation Inc., which also manages the 160,000-sq.-ft. BMO Centre, home to four NHL-sized ice pads. The two facilities can be booked together to host larger competitions, according to general manager, Bill Cruickshank.
Halifax Convention Centre
The Centre opened its doors in late 2017, and is already hosting sports-related conferences and competitions. The 120,000-sq.-ft. facility played host to the Canadian Junior Weightlifting Championships in January, as well as the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance’s annual Sport Events Congress in March.
