Sport Canada has commissioned Archipel Research and Consulting Inc., an Indigenous-owned, women-led research company, to advise on how research about Indigenous peoples in sport can be improved. The project, titled Indigenous Peoples in Sport: Research and Data Plan, will gain insights from sport researchers, athletes, coaches, sport officials, Indigenous sport organizations and non-Indigenous sport organizations. A series of Sharing Circles are being held during fall 2022 to gather insights that will be compiled into a report and shared with Sport Canada and the Indigenous sport community. The research process will be guided by an Indigenous Advisory Group made up of Elders, Knowledge Holders, Indigenous sport organizations, sport event groups, community organizers, sport researchers and athletes.
