Canada’s top Sport Events, Volunteers, Sponsors & Leaders to be honoured
OTTAWA, ON: Several more sport tourism events, organizations and leaders will be recognized as the 11th annual PRESTIGE (Program Recognizing Exceptional Sport Tourism Initiatives, Games & Events) Award Program gets underway. The awards, presented by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA), will honour the best in sport events, volunteers, organizations, sponsors and leaders in seven different categories. They honour the outstanding contributions of the many different people and organizations that have supported and staged excellent sporting events in the calendar year 2016.
Through the 11 years of the program, recipients have ranged from such major multi-sport events as the 2010 Olympic Winter and Paralympic Games to local community events with a significant grassroots impact. Last year, the PRESTIGE Awards recognized such diverse events as the Tough Mudder Whistler, the 2015 Canada Winter Games, the 2015 Pan Am /ParaPan American Games, and FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.
“Sport tourism is now a significant force in the national economy and in the tourism industry as Canada continues to be a world leader in bidding for and hosting sport events,” said Rick Traer, CEO, CSTA. “So many outstanding people and organizations contribute to the success of these events all across our country. We are pleased to highlight their tremendous contributions through the PRESTIGE Awards program.”
